DR. SPROCH

Laura Sproch (she/her), PhD, CEDS-C has been working in the field of psychology for over 15 years. She has dedicated the majority of her career to the implementation of evidence-based treatments (i.e., science-backed treatments that seem to be particularly effective for particular conditions). Dr. Sproch has worked as a therapist offering these treatments in individual, family, and group therapy in a variety of different treatment settings and levels of care. She has also had the privilege of providing supervision and consultation to other therapists and clinicians, as well as offering supervision to supervisors. Previously, she was the Program Director of the New England Eating Disorders (NEED) Program at Sweetser, a premier eating disorder treatment facility in the state of Maine, where she led a multidisciplinary team in applying evidence-based treatments at multiple levels of care for adults and children. She has expertise in providing comprehensive evaluations and in conducting research to test the efficacy of clinical interventions.
Dr. Sproch has been trained in general cognitive behavioral therapy interventions, interpersonal therapy, behavioral therapy, and school psychology. She has offered comprehensive academic, achievement, and psychological assessments; has been integrally involved in behavioral analysis and planning; and has provided outpatient therapeutic services for a range of mood, anxiety, interpersonal, and adjustment challenges. Dr. Sproch has received extensive continuing education on a variety of topics, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviors, eating disorders, perfectionism, self-esteem, interpersonal conflict, and grief and loss. She is a graduate of the Trichotillomania Learning Center’s Virtual Professional Training Institute and is a certified eating disorder specialist and consultant through the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. She has also completed extensive training on enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy through the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford.
Dr. Sproch received her doctorate in Clinical and School Psychology from Hofstra University, which prides itself as a leader in the New York area for its commitment to cognitive behavioral and behavioral training, and evidence-based practices. Prior to Hofstra, she received her BA in Psychology from Vassar College.
Dr. Sproch has offered trainings and presentations across the country in a variety of different formats, from academic conferences, to local community practices, to news programs, to Podcasts. She has a particular interest in educating both the professional and nonprofessional community about mental health in an effort to improve early intervention and prevention. She serves as Board Member and Treasurer of the Eating Disorder Association of Maine and a member of the Maine Psychological Association, Academy for Eating Disorders, and International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals. She has an interest in responsible and carefully planned teletherapy and has published an article on this topic.
